Stone Options
Man-made, (also known as engineered or reconstituted) stone surfaces are stylish and low-maintenance. The slabs are made up from approximately 93% natural quartz and 7% bonding agents, pigments and resin. This makes the stone extremely hard, practical and a highly versatile surface which gives the appearance of natural stone. Many leading Australian stone suppliers, such as Caesarstone®, WK Marble (Quantum Quartz) and SmartStone have their own unique engineered surfaces.
Some of the key benefits of man-made surfaces include:
- That it contains almost nil porosity which makes it resistant to scratches, chips and stains, giving it an added hygiene factor when used in a kitchen setting, also eliminating the need for sealing.
- The colour is more regular than marble, delivering more consistency when colour matching from a sample.
- Polishing during the manufacturing process gives a lustre to the benchtop
- It’s uniform nature lowers the risk of weak points and breakages – this helps to keep the cost of fabrication down and quality of the finished product up.

For an elegant and wholesome feel for your kitchen, bathroom or laundry, you can’t go past a 100% natural stone benchtop. From the durability of granite to the sheer elegance of marble, we have the material and style to suit your existing décor and design ideas. When you turn to Southeast Stone for stone benchtops, your options are virtually unlimited. As qualified stonemasons, we can source and cut slabs for any application. You can choose from the following materials:
- Granite – Is a type of igneous rock that is a hard and durable stone that has a medium to coarse texture or grain. Granite can catch it’s colour depending on their chemistry and mineralogy to form pinks, greys or even blacks. Granite has the ability to be polished to a mirror finish with a variety of uses in both indoor or outdoor applications including flooring, benchtops and walls.
- Marble – Began as a limestone then transformed into a metamorphic rock. Marble is created from a combination of heat, pressure, chemical and mineral elements in the stone, to make up a variety of colours that are catching to the eye. Marble is highly polished and is used to create flooring, benchtops and art pieces.
- Limestone – Is a sedimentary rock that is mostly used for architectural stone in the world like granite and sandstone. While its fossil specimens give limestone a unique and earthy look, its use for many applications and an aesthetic, warm appeal cant be beaten.
- Travertine – This surface never gets hot due to the lack of metal content in the stone. Travertine is ideal to use for both indoor and outdoor applications like pools, kitchen and bathroom flooring, benchtops and wall cladding.
- Onyx – Is an amazing stone that is artistic when a light is shone through it. The natural patterns of the colour and shadow brings each piece to life. Onyx is the stone choice for mood enhancing lamps, softly lit tables or wall art.
Some materials may have a polished honed, matte or textured finish. If you’re unsure of the right design for your space, give our experienced team a call for advice, or check out our gallery page.
